Choose the story carefully

The story you tell yourself about your child shapes the way you parent them.

Why it matters

If you believe your child is lazy, rude or manipulative, your responses will naturally become more controlling and critical. If instead you wonder whether they are overwhelmed, anxious or struggling with skills they have not yet developed, your responses become calmer and more curious.

The behaviour may look identical. Your interpretation changes everything.
