Mantra 2 of 16
The Rosa Banks Mantras
Adjust the environment
Children often flourish when we change the environment instead of repeatedly trying to change them.
Why it mattersMany behaviours are responses to stress, sensory overload, uncertainty or demands that exceed a child's current abilities. Rather than asking why your child will not change, ask what in their environment might be making success harder.
Sometimes tiny adjustments have enormous effects. A quieter bedroom. A later conversation. A second toothbrush upstairs. Headphones. More recovery time after school. Fewer instructions.
The takeaway
Good gardeners improve the soil before blaming the plant. The same is true for parenting.
