Step 3 of 5 The Rosa Banks Method

Cultivate

Parents cannot force development, but they can create the conditions in which it is more likely to happen. Before trying to change your child, consider whether there are changes you could make around them. Small adjustments to routines, expectations, the sensory environment or your own responses can often have a much greater impact than repeated reminders or correction.

A calmer, more predictable environment helps many neurodivergent children feel safe enough to recover, learn and gradually develop new skills. Sometimes saying less really does achieve more.

Example

Every afternoon ends in shouting and arguments. Instead of immediately talking about homework and behaviour, you quietly offer food, give your child space to decompress and leave difficult conversations until later in the evening. Within a few weeks, the atmosphere at home feels noticeably calmer.
